Why choose Barling's Woodworks?

Barling's Woodworks is a family-run business and boasts 96 years of combined experience shared by founder John Barling, his sons Andrew and Michael, daughter Danielle, and his long-time friend Gerry. Together they build everything in-house using the very best, Forest-Certified White Cypress Pine.

Why use White Cypress Pine?

"Barling's Woodworks White Ant Resistant Cypress Pine. Pictured here is Super Woody, our mascot.
Naturally Termite Resistant: Contains natural oils that resist white Termites.
Class 2 In-Ground Durability: Life expectancy of 15–25 years in the ground.
Low Shrinkage Rate: A very low 2.6% shrinkage rate means minimal warping.
F7 Structural Rated: A moderately hard softwood (Janka rating ~6.4 kN)
Sustainably Sourced: Forest-certified and affordable Australian timber.
Beautiful Character: Features a striking yellow-brown to orange-brown heartwood with a fine texture, straight grain, and distinctive tight knots.

100% Chemical Free & End-of-Life Safe

Three rusty yellow barrels labeled 'Hazardous Treatment,' one leaking green toxic liquid.

Because White Cypress Pine is a naturally durable timber (rated Class 1 Above Ground and Class 2 In-ground), it already contains the natural resins required to protect it from fungi, insects, and decay, making it a popular chemical-free choice. NO hazardous chemical treatments (like CCA) or need for labour intensive installation of chemical treatment rods. Keep your project clean and simple.

While our timber is naturally Class 1 to 2 durable, we recommend this simple step to make it last a lifetime, by adding a Non-hazardous, creosote-based paint.

Adding (Bondall or Diggers Eco) to the buried section of your post, even on the highest in-ground class timbers is an Eco-friendly step and the most effective way to achieve the longest possible lifespan for your fencing and other projects.

Don’t Wait to Paint: Zero Weathering Required

Standard timbers like Merbau and Spotted Gum require a frustrating "seasoning" period. You have to let them sit exposed to the sun and rain to release natural oils and tannins. If you paint them too early, the finish fails. If you wait too long, the timber turns grey and splits.

The White Cypress Solution: White Cypress Pine is ready for the brush the moment it is delivered. It is naturally stable and requires zero weathering time.
✅No Tannin Bleed: Don't worry about staining your concrete or pavers.

✅No Waiting: Complete the job in a single weekend.

✅Superior Adhesion: Because the grain is ready immediately, oils penetrate deep into the timber, and paints bond securely to the surface for a finish that lasts years.

Are You Getting What You Paid For?

Don't get caught out. Cypress Macrocarpa (Class 3) is prone to rotting at the base.
One contractor reported a fence lasting only 2 years in-ground in Kangaroo Ground.
